On Eagles Wings
Written by Michael Joncas
Isaiah 40:31
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run,
and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint."
You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
Who abide in His shadow for life,
Say to the Lord, "My Refuge,
My Rock in Whom I trust."
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
And famine will bring you no fear;
Under His Wings your refuge,
His faithfulness your shield.
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
You need not fear the terror of the night,
Nor the arrow that flies by day,
Though thousands fall about you,
Near you it shall not come.
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
For to His angels He's given a command,
To guard you in all of your ways,
Upon their hands they will bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
Jason Scott Sloan was born December 15, 1975 to Suzanne (Pooler) and Tim Sloan. He was adopted into the Ranney family in 1984. Subsequently he was joined by siblings Calvin and (foster brother) Juan Lara, Micah, Amanda, Tashayla and Jana, as well as numerous foster children from the US and abroad. Although Jason could do only the most basic of self-help skills himself, he rejoiced with every first word, cheered every first step, and enjoyed without jealousy each child who passed through our home. His brother Calvin, Rachelle Elwood, Juan Lara and Brian Nelson were his best friends, and Milton Morocho was the big brother he never had. His brother Calvin Paul Ranney died in 1996, and Jason's constant hope of Heaven grew to include playing competitive basketball with his brother.
Jason graduated from Tigard High School in the class of 1994 and attended Vanguard Services where he had many friends. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on February 9, 2007, leaving his friends and adoptive family as well as his birth family Suzanne Brown, Lynette, Danielle and Anna Mauldin, Jonathan and Kelsey Brown, Tim, Krista, Nick & Joe Sloan, Grandpa Ken Sloan, Aunt Tracy Woodke and cousin Leah, and his Pooler relatives. He was predeceased by his Grannie Jeri Sloan and Great grandma Mamo Sloan.
Interment will be in Winona Cemetery in Tualatin, Oregon where he will be buried with his brother Calvin. Memorial gifts to the family to help with burial expenses or for the publication of the "Broken Hearts, Living Hope" newsletter.
